What is website evaluation?

Ask your users the questions below and listen carefully to their response.

  • What are you communicating on your website?
  • What does your website say about you?
  • What story do you have to tell?
  • Does your website explain what you do?
  • Does your website give an accurate picture of who you are?
  • What is the image your site presents to a first time visitor?
  • What need(s) are you fulfilling for your site users?
  • Who are your users?  What are they like?
  • How does your website help or add value for your users?
  • What is the trigger for a user to contact you?
  • Does your site have substance or is it fluff or just a sales pitch?
  • Is it engaging? Why?
  • Is it irritating?  Why?
  • Can a user visually and quickly scan your site easily or it is hard work?

Your user’s responses above are likely to answer the three usability questions at the top and give you a clue to the answer of the next question.

How do you evaluate a website?

We cover these topics in the initial discussion of your internet site evaluation. One size does not fit all. Evaluation of websites is not an assembly line task.

What’s in it for me?

First, the approach is led by: “What is the purpose of your website?”  It is your answer that tells us what the site should accomplish and the judging criteria.

In addition, there are common ways of presenting your content that translate into fast access by your users. This, in turn, gives you high ratings which then gives you more viewers.

Here’s the real prize. You already know if it’s worth it before you spend any money on features or applications. We may advocate asking the actual site users if a feature works for them by user testing.  This verifies spend before development begins – a cost-saving strategy.
